Council Tool 6 lb. Flathead Axe with Curved Wooden Handle

The Council Tool 6 lb. Flathead Axe has a 32 in. curved hickory handle with a dried eye section that minimizes loosening and shrinking. The Dayton patterned head is made of forged tool steel and has a fully polished, hand sharpened body with a tapered bit for cutting. That bit has a hardness of Rc 48-55 targeted 1.25 in. from the cutting edge, outstripping the ANSI Standards for a bit hardness of Rc 45-60 at least .5 in. back.

This fire axe has a head coated in fire engine red enamel with a clear lacquer over the cutting edge to deter rust. This edge measures 5 in. overall with a square poll. The head is hydraulically seated onto the hickory handle, then secured with a serrated aluminum wedge that improves the bite while offering a strong, lightweight option that won’t change shape because of moisture.
