5 Grants for Firefighters and First Responders
Oct 29th 2025
When it comes to funding, firehouses, firefighters, and other emergency responders have a variety of resources to turn to. At Curtis - Tools for Heroes, we understand that finding firefighter grant resources can take a lot of time and energy. That’s why we’ve created this list of 5 firehouse and first responder grants.
1) Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation
While known mostly for their delicious sandwiches, Firehouse Subs also offers grants for a variety of firehouse and first responder needs, including lifesaving equipment and prevention education. They also provide food and equipment to first responders on the ground during disasters. Check out the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation grant here.
2) FEMA.gov Firefighter Grants
FEMA does far more than provide assistance during emergencies and disasters. They have several grants intended to improve firehouse and first responder situations, including:
Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG)
Helps firefighters get resources to protect citizens and first responders from fire hazards and other emergencies.
Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER)
Provides funding for fire organizations to increase their staffing capacity.
Fire Prevention & Safety Grants
Supports public safety projects intended to better protect from fires and similar hazards.
3) Nutella Stacks for Giving Back
This grant is the result of Nutella partnering with the NVFC (National Volunteer Fire Council) to award $5,000 grants to 5 fire departments. The funding can be used toward fire equipment and firefighter recruitment and retainment, making it ideal for nearly any firehouse. Learn more about this grant here.
4) California Fire Foundation
The California Fire Foundation offers different grants with specific public safety goals in mind for firehouses and first responders in the state of California. The Foundation focuses especially on areas including personal protective equipment (PPE), first responder training, community outreach, and more. Find out more about the California Fire Foundation here.
5) Gary Sinise Foundation
A little different than the other grants listed here, the Gary Sinise Foundation provides support and relief to emergency responders and their families in the wake of trauma or loss. From building specially-designed homes to building a community around those in need, the Gary Sinise Foundation offers various types of grants and relief programs. Check the Foundation out here.
