Training Objectives:
1. To present safe driving techniques that apply to all emergency vehicles. The program describes the overall responsibilities of the pumping apparatus Driver/Operator; identifies the five factors that are frequent causes of accidents involving emergency vehicles; describes precautions to take when backing the vehicle, and presents defensive driving techniques for emergency response.
2. To show how to correctly start and operate both gasoline and diesel powered pumping apparatus. Viewers will see the proper start up procedure for most pumping apparatus. A demonstration of the special start up and driving procedures for diesel engine apparatus is presented, as well as the correct cool-down practice for diesel engines.
3. To demonstrate the performance criteria for practical driving exercises. The program presents a demonstration of each of the five driving exercises presented in NFPA 1002: the Alley Dock, Station Parking Procedure, the Serpentine Course, the Confined Space Turnaround, and the Diminishing Clearance exercise.
