ITEM #: DP4 ACTION TRAIN

#4 - Apparatus Inspection & Maintenance

This program presents the tasks involved in routine pumping apparatus inspection and maintenance required of a driver/operator. It demonstrates: a systematic apparatus inspection procedure (the “walk-around” inspection), routine maintenance tasks and inspection and preventive maintenance of the fire pump.

Training Objectives:
1. To demonstrate a systematic apparatus inspection procedure. The program shows various reasons for maintaining inspection routines and records on fire apparatus, and tells why the “circle” or “walk around” inspection method is a good procedure for inspecting fire pumping apparatus. It describes the different inspection points of the circle inspection, and shows viewers the signs of wear and potential breakdown to look for when inspecting the apparatus.
2. To present the tasks for routine maintenance of the apparatus. The viewer will see how to perform a mechanical inspection of the apparatus, including how to inspect the different engine systems, and the maintenance checks for each system. The regular maintenance routines that are the responsibility of the Driver/Operator are presented and demonstrated. The maintenance tasks that should be performed by qualified service personnel other than the Driver/Operator are also listed.
3. To show procedures for inspection and preventive maintenance of the fire pump. An important maintenance duty is to routinely inspect the fire pump. The program shows fire pump inspection points and describes routine preventive maintenance that should be done on the fire pump.
